Magical Musical Experience

If you have never been to a house show, it’s going to be hard to express how magical these experiences can be.  Basically, you take amazing music, lovely people, and put it into a small, personal space.

We have played, produced and attended quite a few house shows and have never been disapointed.  Here’s a post about a show we put on with Jacob Butcher, Holly McGarry, and Marshall McLean. And as great as living room shows are, we discovered last year that being outside  in Sandpoint in the summer pushes the experience to a whole new level.

So, on Saturday, August 24th, we’re going to get an early start on the day and transform this:

into this:

The photos above are from last year’s house show.  Here’s a post about it with some videos.

The lineup this year includes Anna and the Underbelly, us, and Mama Doll.

If you’re unfamiliar with Anna and the Underbelly, here’s an excerpt from this post on nodepression.com:

Anna Tivel (recording with her band as Anna and the Underbelly) brings a raft of beautiful songs with brine-soaked images of Pacific Northwest tidepools, oceans, and the birds that wheel above them in the gray skies. Her gentle, fragile voice sounds a bit like Laura Veirs, and brings to mind the same effortless folk phrasing and soft inflections of Veirs’ best work.

As for Mama Doll, they made their live debut as Sarah and Austen at our house show with Chris Staples a few months ago.  In June, they had two of their original tunes, Crow Song and Rumors featured on Collect and the videos have garnered over 1000 views each in just over a month.  They have also added depth to their sound, with our own Jen Landis joining them on bass!

The show will be held in our backyard.  We’re asking for an $8 cover so that we can pay the artists at least a small fraction of what their performances are worth.  If that’s prohibitively steep for you, come anyway and give what you can (financially or barter-style).  Of course, additional donations are accepted as well.

Bring whatever you like to eat or drink and maybe a blanket or chair to sit on.

We are VERY excited about sharing this evening together.  Please contact us via Facebook or our contact page for more information.

Our Daytrotter session is live!

During our Family Van tour, we had the distinct privilege of recording a session for Daytrotter while we were in San Francisco. We met up with a talented and friendly engineer named Rob at Studio Paradiso, which is nestled cozily behind a hotel in downtown SF. Josh Hedlund, Holly McGarry and we each recorded four songs.

We were also featured on Collect, a great site the curates great music and art from the Pacific Northwest. Check out the story here.

Family Van Tour 2013

In less than 3 weeks we’ll pile 7 people into a Honda Odyssey, load all necessary gear into our trailer, and hit the road.  The lineup for the Family Van Tour will include Cedar & Boyer, Holly McGarry, and Josh Hedlund.  There is little that sounds as exciting as spending 2 weeks on the road, with great people playing great music.  Once again we’ll be joined by Ani and Miles, our (Jen & Justin) two kids.

Check out our shows page a full listing of where we’ll be.  Between May 12th and 28th, we’re playing 14 shows in as many cities.

As always, you can keep up with us by following us on the Twitter, the Facebook, and our email list (sign up on the home page).

Below are some photos and videos from last summer’s Ill-Defined Lines Tour.

Mixing in Progress

We’re chipping away at the mixing process for our most recent recordings.  The songs we’re working on are Used to Know, I’m Sorry I Lost Touch, and Blood|Infinity.  These are a few of our favorites, and staples in our live set.  We’re really happy with the way they’re coming out and excited to share them with everyone.  Hopefully by the end of this weekend, we’ll have the tracks up on Soundcloud.

Recording & Twitter

We’re into day 2 of recording our first e.p.  We made good progress yesterday and are looking forward to another big day. We’re working in a small bedroom at Jen’s folks’ place, which feels luxurious just by nature of the fact that it’s not our living room.

We’ve been tryin to document the process somewhat via Twitter and Facebook. You can check out the updates at Twitter.com/cedarandboyer, or Facebook.com/cedarandboyer.

We’re hoping to have some CDs available for our show this Friday wih the Terrible Buttons (@terriblebuttons) at Eichardt’s in Sandpoint.

Headed South

Cedar & Boyer will be playing at Coldwater Creek wine bar on Friday night, December 2.  On Saturday, we’ll pack up and head out of town.

We’ll be playing at Full Circle Brewery in Fresno, CA on December 8th with The Overdubs and others.  Stay tuned for more info!

Update: We had a blast playing with the overdubs.  Here’s a video of Cedar & Boyer covering Wilco’s Solitaire.

Justin had the opportunity to play with the overdubs as well.  Here are a couple videos.
